About the event
You are warmly invited to a special 2nd Friday Shabbat service on Friday, January 10th @ 7:30 PM led by Larry Blass and featuring our first guest speaker of 2025, Robert Rickover. Robert is an instructor of the Alexander Technique in the US and Canada, and the son of Admiral Hyman Rickover, dubbed “Father of the Nuclear Navy”. Admiral Rickover worked on various ships across the Pacific Theatre during WWII where he steadily climbed the ranks, but it was post war where he really made a name for himself.
After joining an initiative begun at the Manhattan Project's Clinton Laboratory (now the Oak Ridge National Laboratory) to develop a nuclear electric generating plant, he quickly became the most prolific advocate for nuclear marine propulsion, and subsequently led the project that saw the creation of the USS Nautilus, the first nuclear powered submarine.
